During the stressful time of COVID-19 pandemic, Anshan Municipality in China’s Liaoning Province
donated many boxes of masks and protective gowns to the frontline medical workers of Mazeikiai
District of Lithuania to express the solidarity and goodwill of its people toward the people of
Mazeikiai. Anshan and Mazeikiai are in the process of establishing sister-city arrangement. Several
consignments of PPEs were delivered by Express Mail Service, and were accepted by Mazeikiai
District Mayor Mr. Vidmantas Macevicius and his team who thanked Anshan for its generosity and
friendship. The Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Vilnius coordinated the
donation, and Commercial Counsellor Mr Chen Lin handed over part of the donation to Mr Virgilijus
Radvilas, Adivisor to the Mayor of Mazeikiai District.
According to Mr Radvilas, Mazeikiai District has managed the COVID-19 emergency quite
successfully with only a few cases and no loss of life, and this donation will be used to handle a
possible second wave when the weather turns colder.
